Cold or Heat After Exercise in Autumn? How to Make an Aloe Vera Hot and Cold Gel Part of Your Massage Ritual

Cold or Heat After Exercise in Autumn? How to Make an Aloe Vera Hot and Cold Gel Part of Your Massage Ritual

October has something special for anyone who loves to move. The summer heat is behind us, and mountain trails, long runs and the first bike rides with a jacket on start to feel tempting again. But when you get home, legs heavy and the evening chill still in your body, the same old question comes up: cold or heat?

The answer doesn’t have to be one or the other. In this article, we explain what each sensation offers, when you’re most likely to want each one, and how to turn that post-workout moment into a simple massage ritual you can repeat all season long.

Cold, heat or hot and cold: what each sensation offers

Before you choose, it helps to understand what each type of gel is designed for. It’s not about one being better than the other, but about the sensation you feel like at any given moment.

Cooling gel Warming gel Hot and cold gel
Sensation Instant freshness Enveloping warmth Freshness first, warmth afterwards
When you’ll usually want it Right after you finish, while your body is still warm Before you start, or on cold days Any time, if you’d rather not choose
Ideal for Mild days, intense activity Chilly mornings, warming up before heading out Autumn and winter, full massage routines

A cooling gel is associated with the fresh sensation many people look for as soon as they finish, while the body is still warm.

A warming gel, on the other hand, tends to be preferred when it’s cold outside or as part of your preparation before getting started: that warmth is comforting on autumn mornings.

A hot and cold gel brings both experiences together in a single gesture. First you notice the freshness and, as you keep massaging, a gradual warmth sets in. That’s why it suits autumn so well: temperatures change a lot from one day to the next, and you don’t always know what you’ll need.

Why autumn is hot and cold gel season

In autumn, contrast is everywhere. You head out in the cold morning, finish your route feeling warm and get back home once the temperature has dropped again. Your self-care routine can keep pace with that rhythm.

It’s also the season when many people get back into activity after the summer. Hiking, running, cycling or getting ready for the ski season return to the calendar. So do long working days, whether sitting or standing, that leave your legs feeling tired by the evening. For those days, we also have our tired legs pack.

For all these moments, a gel that combines freshness and warmth becomes an easy essential to keep close at hand. And if you’ve already prepared your skin with our seasonal skincare routine, this is the next step in looking after your body throughout autumn.

What’s inside our hot and cold gel

At Aloe Vera Exclusive, we formulate our Aloe Vera Hot and Cold Effect Gel with a base of 96% aloe vera, grown on our own farm in Fuerteventura. You can find out how we guarantee that purity on our quality and certifications page.

To that base, we add a blend of essential oils that explains the two sensations:

  • Mint and natural menthol, responsible for the cooling effect.
  • Rosemary, cinnamon, wintergreen, pepper and clove, which bring the warming sensation.

The result is a lightweight gel that spreads easily and absorbs as you massage, without leaving a greasy feel.

It comes in two versions: the Aloe Vera Hot and Cold Effect Gel, our traditional formula, and the Aloe Vera Hot and Cold Effect Gel ULTRA, an evolution of that same formula. Both are available in 100 ml and 200 ml.

Your autumn massage ritual, step by step

You don’t need much time. Five minutes when you get home is enough.

1. Give yourself a moment before you start
After your shower, with clean, dry skin, find a quiet spot. A massage works best when you’re not in a hurry.

2. Apply a small amount
Take roughly a walnut-sized amount and spread it over the area you want to care for: calves, thighs, back, shoulders or neck.

3. Massage with gentle movements
Apply the gel with a gentle massage over the area until fully absorbed. On your legs, start at the ankles and work up towards the knees with long, slow strokes. You’ll notice the freshness first and then, little by little, the warmth.

4. Breathe and let it work
Finish with a few deep breaths. This is your moment to switch off from the day and enjoy the sensation.

5. Repeat whenever you need
You can make it part of your routine after every outing or at the end of your longest days. Always remember to read the directions for use on the label.

Why it matters where your aloe vera comes from

Not all aloe vera gels are the same. Many products on the market include aloe as just another ingredient, bought from third parties and used in small amounts.

At Aloe Vera Exclusive, we’ve done things differently since 1989. We’re a family business that grows, makes and bottles its own products in Tiscamanita, in the heart of Fuerteventura.

That’s what makes Fuerteventura aloe vera so special: the island’s dry, bright climate, with long hours of sunshine throughout the year, gives the plant exceptional conditions to grow.

Controlling the whole process, from watering to harvesting and bottling, allows us to offer you something that isn’t always easy to find: real traceability, with no middlemen between the plant and the final product.

Frequently asked questions

Is it better to use cold or heat after exercise?
It depends on the sensation you prefer. Cold usually feels best right after you finish, while your body is still warm; heat on cold days or before you get started. A hot and cold gel combines both sensations in a single gesture.

When should I apply a hot and cold gel?
You can use it after exercise, at the end of a long day or as part of your regular massage routine. Apply it with a gentle massage until fully absorbed.

Which ingredients create the cold and warm sensations?
In our gel, mint and natural menthol provide the freshness, while rosemary, cinnamon, wintergreen, pepper and clove bring the warmth. All on a base of 96% aloe vera.

What’s the difference between the hot and cold gel and the ULTRA?
The ULTRA is an evolution of our traditional formula. Both share the same Fuerteventura aloe vera base and essential oil blend. If you’re not sure which one to choose, our product finder will help you discover the one that suits you best.

This autumn, get out there and come back to yourself

Autumn invites you to get outside, walk and find your rhythm again. And to treat yourself to a moment of care when you get back home.

Discover our Aloe Vera Hot and Cold Effect Gel ULTRA and our Aloe Vera Hot and Cold Effect Gel, and turn the end of every outing into your own massage ritual.

And if you’re travelling to Fuerteventura, come and visit us at our factory: the tour is free and lets you see up close how we grow and craft our aloe vera, from plant to final product.
